Independent Investigations
Internal investigations of complaints are not always straightforward. The most common dissatisfaction expressed by complainants is that staff, board members or owners conducting the investigation are not independent and therefore the investigation was biassed or “covered things up”. These perceptions of bias and conflict of interest can be very difficult to avoid. Complainant dissatisfaction can result in the matter being taken outside the organisation to other authorities, or to the media.
We conduct independent investigations into sensitive, serious or complicated matters where the organisation may be seen as having a conflict or its independence may be challenged.
We follow a process which ensures that all parties are accorded natural justice. We prepare a full independent report which can be provided to the board or institution owner and to the complainant.
